Ex-Nazi who saved Jews dies

FRANKFURT, Germany (UPI) -- Oskar Schindler, a wartime Nazi intelligence officer who saved more than 1,200 Jews from the gas chambers, died at the age of 66, his family announced yesterday.

In his capacity as an intelligence officer, Schindler managed industrial enterprises the Nazis seized from Jews in Poland and Czechoslovakia.

He risked his life in preventing the deportation of 1,200 Jews to concentration camps.
