Rocket age gets to ice cream, amusement park

By United Press International

NEWARK -- The historic Apollo 11 flight already is influencing some of the elements in American lifestyles -- ice cream and carnivals.

The Good Humor Co. of Englewood Cliffs, which invented ice cream on a stick 49 years ago, announced Wednesday it will market a frozen treat called the "Moon Shot."

The treat, a frozen ice in various fruit flavors, is shaped like a rocket ship and will be on the market this week "to symbolize and commemorate this historical event," according to the firm.

At the sprawling Palisades Amusement Park near the Hudson River in Fort Lee, a rocket ship ride called the "Apollo 11 opened for business.

The park's 10-year-old Rocket Ride was redesigned for a three minute, wild trip to the moon. A motion picture screen showing a descent to the moon is shown in front of the dipping and tossing rocket compartment.
