SAVANNAH, Ga. -- A Coast Guard Petty Officer, the father of four children, was shot and killed Friday at his home by a would-be burglar.
The victim was PO William J. Micke Jr. He was slain on the eve of his 30th birthday.
Police arrested 25-year-old Henry Furman of Savannah and charged him with the murder.
According to police, Micke, who was stationed with the Coast Guard here, went from his bedroom to the rear of his house to investigate noises he heard.
Furman was found by police hiding under a house about 10 blocks from the scene. Police said they recovered a .22 pistol from Furman.
