AMHERST, Mass., Aug. 8, 1964 (UPI) - Attorney General Robert F. Kennedy said last night that peace could be restored to turbulent South Viet-Nam if the supply lines from the North were cut. "There is no question in the minds of this country that the arms, material and command for the war in South Viet-Nam are coming from North Viet-Nam," Kennedy said last night during a question period before the fifth annual World Assembly of Youth meeting.
Kennedy told the 500 assembly delegates at the University of Massachusetts campus that the withdrawal or lessening of American military aid to South Viet-Nam would mean the United States had broken its word.
The honor and word of the United States then would become meaningless throughout the world, the attorney general said.
"The United States doesn't want to be there in Viet-Nam. We are committed with reluctance but we are committed...because this country has a commitment to freedom," he said.
"In my opinion the stationing of American troops in South Viet-Nam is an unselfish act. Everybody that is there would rather be home."
