Negroes stage sit down act

By United Press International

GREENSBORO, N.C. -- A group of well-dressed Negro college students staged a sit-down strike in a dime store Tuesday but failed to carry out their promise to sit at the lunch counter until served.

The Negroes left the F.W. Woolworth Co. store at 12:30 p.m. promising to return at 2:30 p.m. to resume their protest. They did not appear during the afternoon, and North Carolina A&T College officials began an investigation of the matter.
