Sen. McCarthy's charge denied by State Department

WASHINGTON -- The State Department today denied a statement attributed to Sen. Joseph R. McCarthy, R., Wis., that 205 Communist party members are "working and shaping the policy in the State department."

Department spokesman Lincoln White said the department "knows of no Communist party members" in its ranks.

"If we find any they will be summarily dismissed," he added.
