Arkansas troops defy federal integration order
LITTLE ROCK, Ark., Sept. 4, 1957 (UP) - Arkansas national guardsmen stopped eight Negroes from entering Central High School today. They acted in defiance of a federal judge's order that the school was to be integrated.About 500 white civilians looked on as the Negroes met the guardsmen. "Bash her head in," came a cry from the crowd as one Negro girl walked way from the school.

LITTLE ROCK, Ark., Sept. 23, 1957 (UP) --White students - faced with the decision of sitting with Negroes for the first time - began streaming out of Central minutes after the nine Negroes entered.
No plans to recall Guard, says Faubus
SEA ISLAND, Ga., Sept. 23, 1957 (UP) - Arkansas Gov. Orval Faubus said today racial disorder that broke out in Little Rock this morning was "the thing I acted to prevent when I called out the National Guard" to prevent integration of Central High School.Faubus was slapped with a federal injunction Friday to prevent his further interference with integration. He withdrew the Guardsmen Friday night.
