Russia supports Palestine partition

LAKE SUCCESS, L.I., N.Y., Oct. 13, 1947 (UP) - Russia supported the principle of Palestine partition in the United Nations today, virtually assuring a U.N. program aiming at giving Jews and Arabs separate and independent states.

The Soviet position was disclosed to the U.N. Palestine Committee of the General Assembly on the heels of the United States decision to support partition.

Soviet delegate Semyon A. Tsarapkin supported the 12 unanimous recommendations of the U.N.'s special Palestine inquiry commission, particularly those calling for early termination of Britain's 25-year-old mandate and independence for the territory.
