Liebknecht, as leader of the Spartacans, has been in the thick of the fighting with the Ebert forces. He has braved danger time and again and Wednesday evening was dragged by a mob from a taxicab in Unter den Linden, but was rescued by his adherents before harm could be done him.

Talking to a crowd at that time Liebknecht said:

"Government supporters have just attempted to lynch me, but we routed them. We have formed a revolutionary committee. Therefore, we will arm and remain in the streets."
