U.S. recognizes new Chinese republic

WASHINGTON, May 2, 1913 (UP) - The republic of China has been officially recognized by the United States. A cablegram to this effect was received today by Acting Secretary of State Moore from Charge d'Affaires E.T. Williams, of the American legation at Peking.

President Yuan Shi Kai also cabled the state department the message was read in the assembly and accepted.
