NEW YORK, April 15, 1912 (UP) -- The White Star line officials, after a conference lasting an hour, issued an official statement in which they stated that the great liner was unsinkable, and that there was no reason to believe that she either had or could founder. They declared the interruption to the wireless communication was not significant of danger.

April 16, 1912 - Hope for the safety of passengers of the ill-fated Titanic was practically abandoned this afternoon after the ship foundered off Newfoundland on April 14, 1912.

Morgan is director of the company. Franklin declares that neither he nor Morgan knew that the Titanic had sunk until 6:30 p. m. Monday.

NEW YORK, April 17, 1912 (UP) -- All hope that the list of survivors of the shipwrecked Titanic would be increased by rescues made by the liners Virginian and Parisian was blasted early this morning by a radiogram from the Olympic, sister ship of the great White Star liner which foundered in 2,000 fathoms early Monday after collision with an iceberg of the coast of Newfoundland.

The Carpathia is a ship of sorrow with a company almost mad with grief, according to President Franklin of the White Star line, who protested at noon that definite information as to the Titanic disaster was still unavailable.

It was impossible to distinguish it at a great distance and the big liner was rushing through the water at such a fearful rate of speed that when the lookout in the crow's-nest reported "Ice ahead!" there was not time to transmit the reverse order to the engine room before the crash came.

NEW YORK, April 19, 1912 (UP) -- "Maj. Butt took charge of one section of the ship in placing the women in the lifeboats," said Charles William Daniels of Richmond, Va., as he came ashore. "Howard Case was another hero. He installed a system to get the women off. And he saw that the system was followed. I think he was the big hero of the disaster."
