Dec. 15 (UPI) -- Disney Channel has announced it fired Stoney Westmoreland, an actor on its sitcom Andi Mack, after he was arrested in Utah this week.

KSL.com reported Westmoreland, 48, allegedly tried to arrange a sexual encounter with a person he met through an online dating app and believed was 13 years old.

Court documents show he was arrested for investigation of enticing a minor by Internet or text, a second-degree felony, and four counts of dealing in materials harmful to a minor, a third-degree felony.

"Stoney Westmoreland, an actor working on the series Andi Mack, was arrested in Salt Lake City today," a Disney Channel representative said in a statement Friday. "Given the nature of the charges and our responsibility for the welfare of employed minors, we have released him from his recurring role and he will not be returning to work on the series which wraps production on its third season next week."

Andi Mack films in the city where Westmoreland was arrested.

Created by Terri Minsky, the show stars Peyton Elizabeth Lee as a 13-year-old middle school student. Westmoreland played Henry "Ham" Mack, the title character's grandfather on the comedy, Deadline.com said.
