BOSTON, Feb. 12 (UPI) -- With the nation on a heightened state of alert to possible terrorism, police bomb squads responded to two incidents Wednesday in Boston.
An American Eagle jet passenger plane was prevented from taking off from Boston after a heat sensor warning light came on.
In the other incident, a suspicious package prompted officials to evacuate several upper floors in the John F. Kennedy federal building in Boston.
All 21 passengers and three crewmembers aboard Flight 4579 were evacuated and their bags were removed from the luggage compartment.
The passengers were taken by bus back to the terminal as the bomb squad checked the baggage to determine what set off the heat warning light.
Nothing suspicious was found, officials said.
The plane had been set to depart from Logan International Airport for Baltimore when the warning light came on in the cockpit.
At the JFK building in downtown Boston, police were called to the 17th floor after an employee reportedly discovered a box containing a half-dozen vials filled with an unknown liquid.
As about a hundred workers filed out into the sub-freezing cold about 10 a.m., the box was removed from the building and sent to the state crime lab for analysis.
There was no immediate word as to the contents.
The workers were later allowed back into the building.
