JonBenet Ramsey case under review

DENVER, Dec. 20 (UPI) -- The Boulder district attorney is conducting a new review of evidence in the unsolved death of JonBenet Ramsey, who was killed six years ago this month, The Denver Post reported Friday.

Despite years of investigation and a grand jury review, no charges have been filed in the death of the 6-year-old child beauty queen in her parent's Boulder home.

District Attorney Mary Keenan could not be reached for comment but other prosecutors confirmed she has assigned herself and one of her chief deputies to the unsolved case.

"It is pretty clear she wants to do everything she can to keep the investigation moving forward and active," said Jim Peters, the Arapahoe county district attorney and president of the Colorado District Attorneys Council.

Peters would not say if any new evidence has been uncovered but he said Keenan wants to meet with prosecutors involved in the old investigation.

"She is planning to meet with all the metro DAs to pick our brains and chat about some of the evidentiary items," he told the Post. "She is getting our ideas on directions the case might go based on her conversations with us."

Several of prosecutors aided former Boulder District Attorney Alex Hunter in the original investigation of the crime that captured the nation's attention.

A ransom note was found by the child's mother, Patsy, in the early hours of Dec. 26, 1996, at the family's Boulder home. John Ramsey found his daughter's body about eight hours later in the basement. Keenan was one of the first prosecutors at the scene that day.

JonBenet's parents came under suspicion during the investigation but they steadfastly denied any involvement and were never charged.

Lin Wood, the Ramsey's attorney in Atlanta, told the Post that he would support a review of the case if Keenan is open to using investigators outside the Boulder police department.

"That is the only chance we have of solving the case," Wood said.
