ISLAMABAD, Pakistan, April 4 (UPI) -- Pakistani Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani promised Friday to restore the constitution and ensure an independent judiciary.

WASHINGTON, Jan. 3 (UPI) -- There is a fresh and sordid postscript to Benazir Bhutto's assassination. Tainted by her husband Asif Ali Zardari's penchant for graft and corruption, Bhutto was twice fired as Prime Minister (1990 and 1996). Her closest friends now say she did not appoint Zardari to succeed her as party leader in case of death. The political testament Zardari read on television was his recent creation, not hers.

She was a charismatic leader who inspired and gave hope to millions of her people, only to disappointment them with the difficult-to-shake stench of corruption; the first woman leader in a Muslim country, she was emblematic of the region's proclivity toward dynastic politics.

RAWALPINDI, Pakistan, Dec. 28 (UPI) -- The body of former Pakistani Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto, the victim of a suicide attack, was buried Friday next to her father in her family's graveyard.

No sooner did Benazir Bhutto narrowly escape a two-man suicide bombing attack than she faced the next death threat of many more to come. Like paparazzi chasing down a celebrity, would-be assassins will be dogging her every step as she leads her Pakistan People’s Party in the coming election campaign to reclaim Pakistan’s prime ministership, from which she was deposed in 1990 and again in 1996.
