Thomas Gerard Tancredo (born December 20, 1945) is a former Republican member of the United States House of Representatives from Colorado's 6th congressional district, and the current honorary chairman of Youth for Western Civilization.
Tancredo rose to national prominence for opposing illegal immigration. Tancredo won re-election against Democratic challenger Bill Winter by a 59%-40% margin in 2006. The district includes most of Denver's southern suburbs. He was a declared candidate for the 2008 Republican presidential nomination who was known for his opposition to illegal immigration and excessive immigration in general.
Tancredo announced he was dropping out of the presidential race on his 62nd birthday on December 20, 2007.
