Sigmar Gabriel (born 12 September 1959 in Goslar) is a German politician, a member of SPD.

Gabriel was born in Goslar. After Gerhard Glogowski resigned, Gabriel became Minister-President of Lower Saxony on 15 December 1999 and served until 4 March 2003. After being voted off, he was appointee of the SPD for Pop Music for 2 years, for which he was bestowed with the nickname Siggy Pop. He is currently serving as Federal Minister for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety minister in the cabinet of Angela Merkel.

He has promoted the International Renewable Energy Agency.
