British hopes of $10B Emirates Typhoon deal sink

ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates, Dec. 13 (UPI) -- Britain's high-profile drive to sell Eurofighter Typhoon combat jets in the Persian Gulf seems to be running into trouble, with the United Arab Emirates reportedly having second thoughts about acquiring up to 60 of the aircraft under a contract possibly worth $10 billion.

BEIRUT, Lebanon, May 10 (UPI) -- One of U.S. President George W. Bush's top three priorities in the Middle East -- stabilizing Lebanon -- is on the verge of collapse, observers said Saturday.

Four months later and 16 attempts at staging elections to fill the vacant presidency, Baabda Palace remains unoccupied -- and Lebanon remains without a president.
