Rebecca De Mornay is an American film and television actress. Her breakthrough film role came in 1983, when she played Lana in Risky Business opposite Tom Cruise. Her other notable film roles include Sara in Runaway Train in 1985, Helen McCaffrey in the thriller Backdraft in 1991 and her portrayal of the chillingly twisted nanny Peyton Flanders in the popular 1992 thriller The Hand That Rocks the Cradle.

The New York Times gives her alternative name as Rebecca George and her date of birth as August 29, 1961, but her exact date of birth is unclear and there are various dates quoted throughout the press. During her early years, she lived in California; her father was Wally George, who was a disc jockey at the time. When she was two, her parents divorced and at the age of five, she became known by her stepfather's surname, De Mornay. At the age of seven, De Mornay was diagnosed with a Peptic Ulcer, and was given a 50/50 chance of living. She was in Mexico City and recalled getting out of bed and looking out the window and saw snow, an old lamppost and children dancing barefoot around it — according to doctors and her family, this never happened, and this was described as an out-of-body experience. She attended the independent Summerhill School in Leiston, Suffolk, England. Her high school degree was awarded in Kitzbühel, Austria. She later trained as an actress in New York at the Lee Strasberg Institute. She has 2 brothers: Jonathan De Mornay, a wealthy businessman, and Peter De Mornay, a talented guitarist.

De Mornay had a relationship with Tom Cruise. They lived together in New York after working together on Risky Business.
