WASHINGTON, July 17 (UPI) -- The United States is committed, under Article 5 of the 1949 Washington Treaty, to defend its European NATO allies, including Poland, from any foreign aggression. But Poland's current leaders aren't eager to do their part in protecting the United States from thermonuclear attack.

PARIS, June 20 (UPI) -- It might be game, set and match for Senator Obama, but the United States is still not out of domestic political turmoil. In international affairs the United States is worryingly out of the political loop. Halfway through 2008, here are my thoughts on some political happenings in the United States, Poland, Germany, Serbia, Zimbabwe, Georgia and Nepal.

WARSAW, Poland, Nov. 14 (UPI) -- Polish Prime Minister-designate Donald Tusk of the liberal, pro-EU Civic Platform and the centrist Peasant Party have agreed to form a coalition government.

LONDON, Nov. 12 (UPI) -- Poles have dumped Jaroslaw Kaczynski for Donald Tusk. A bone of contention: former Defense Minister Radek Sikorski.
