Topic: Peter Struck

Peter Struck (born 24 January 1943 in Göttingen) is a lawyer, member of the Social Democratic Party of Germany and was the German Minister of Defence under chancellor Gerhard Schröder from 22 October 2002 until 2005.

Struck studied law at the universities of Göttingen and Hamburg. In 1971 he graduated to Dr jur. (doctor of laws).

Peter Struck has been a member of the Bundestag since 1980. From 1990 to 1998 he was whip (Parlamentarischer Geschäftsführer) of the SPD parliamentary group. From 1998 to 2002 he was chairman of the SPD parliamentary group. In 2002 he succeeded Rudolf Scharping in the position of Defence Minister, and served in that position until 2005. He now is "Fraktionschef" (leader of the SPD Group in the Bundestag) of the SPD.
