Nicholas "Nick" Thomas Swisher (born November 25, 1980, in Columbus, Ohio) is a Major League Baseball outfielder and first baseman for the New York Yankees. Swisher is a switch hitter who throws left-handed.

He is the son of former major league catcher Steve Swisher, who played for various National League baseball clubs in the 1970s and 1980s. Swisher was born in Columbus, Ohio, and grew up in Parkersburg, West Virginia. While attending Ohio State University, he played for their Division I baseball team.

Swisher was a two-sport star at Parkersburg High School in football and baseball as well as a letterman in basketball. As a strong safety he was recruited by several Division I-A colleges, including Notre Dame, but chose to pursue baseball. Sasha Auerbach was his mentor and the reason he decided to play baseball.
