Nathan Horton (born May 29, 1985 in Welland, Ontario) is a Canadian professional ice hockey centre who currently plays for the Florida Panthers of the National Hockey League (NHL). Prior to being drafted by the Panthers third overall in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft, Horton played two seasons for the Oshawa Generals of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL). With Oshawa he scored 64 goals and recorded 71 assists.
In his rookie season, Horton recorded his first NHL assist on October 24 and scored his first goal on November 1. A rotator cuff and labrum would prove troublesome, allowing Horton to play only 55 games for the season and during the locked out 2004-2005 season only 21 with the San Antonio Rampage of the American Hockey League (AHL). Early in the 2005–06 NHL season, Horton suffered a knee injury that kept him out of 11 games. During that season, Horton recorded his first career hat trick. The following two seasons, saw Horton play the full 82 games for the first time in his career, during which he had his career–high in goals and assists.
Prior to the 2001 OHL Draft, a 16–year old Horton stated that if he was drafted first overall by the Mississauga Ice Dogs, he would not report to the team. He was instead selected second overall in the draft by the Oshawa Generals. In a 6–3 win over the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds, Horton teamed up with future Ottawa Senator Brian McGrattan to score 3 goals for the Generals. As a rookie in the OHL, Horton totaled 31 goals and 36 assists in 64 games for the Generals.
