Moshe Katsav votes for President of Israel
JER2000073101 -31 JULY 2000 - JERUSALEM, ISRAEL: Opposition candidate, Moshe Katsav, casts his ballot in the Knesset, July 31, 2000, in the race between Shimon Peres and Moshe Katsav to be Israel's eight President. In an upset victory, Katsav defeated Shimon Peres, a Nobel Peace Prize laureate in a vote in parliament on Monday for president. The victory for Katsav was a humiliating end to Peres half century political career and dealt another blow to Prime Minister Barak who has been weakened by a failed peace summit and problems within his coalition.
