Susan Cox Powell is an American woman missing from West Valley City, Utah, and last seen on December 6, 2009. Her disappearance has garnered national press attention, and police investigation is ongoing as of February 2012. Significant public scrutiny focused on her husband, Joshua Powell, who was considered a person of interest in the investigation. In late 2011 Joshua lost custody of the couple's two young children shortly after his father, who was living with Joshua and the children, was arrested on voyeurism and child pornography charges. During a supervised visit with his children on February 5, 2012, Joshua and his children were killed in an apparent murder–suicide when his home, laced with gasoline as an accelerant, exploded and burned.
