Joshua (Josh) Malik Childress (born June 20, 1983 in Harbor City, California) is an American professional basketball player. He currently plays with the pro club Olympiacos Piraeus in the HEBA A1 and the Euroleague.
Childress attended Mayfair High School in Lakewood, California. Besides basketball, he also played volleyball during his senior year, and led the Monsoons to an undefeated record. He then played three seasons at Stanford, where he was an AP 1st-Team All American and the Pac 10 player of the year as a junior in 2004. He declared for the 2004 NBA draft and was a first-round pick, number six overall, the highest a Stanford player has ever been drafted.
During the 2004-05 NBA season Childress emerged as one of two promising rookie talents for the Atlanta Hawks, along with Josh Smith; the two showed improved play, minutes, and production. Childress ranked third among rookies in double-doubles in the 2004-05 season, behind only Emeka Okafor and Dwight Howard.
