MISSOURI MAN TO BE EXECUTED

Preperations are being made by the Missouri Department of Corrections to put Vernon Brown to death for the October 1986 strangulation death of a nine-year-old north St. louis girl. A federal judge rejected Brown's plea that his execution by lethal injection would subject him to excessive pain. Brown's attorney, John Simon says the methods of anesthesia in lethal injections are flawed and inmates might experience awareness and suffering during executions. The execution will be carried out at the maxium security prision in Bonne Terre, Mo at 12:01 on May 18, 2005. (UPI Photo/HO)
