So spoke Frank Carlucci, former U.S. defense secretary and national security adviser, at the Council on Foreign Relations. Failure, said Carlucci, would break the Atlantic Alliance and turn the world stage over to the next two global heavy hitters -- China and Russia.

BRUSSELS, Jan. 22 (UPI) -- Five of NATO's most senior military leaders said the alliance is at risk of failing and should become more aggressive with "first strike" options.

MOSCOW, Nov. 14 (UPI) -- Protesters crowded in front of the Georgian parliament for six days demanding the president's resignation. Astonishingly, President Saakashvili is resigning in two weeks.

TACOMA, Wash., Aug. 9 (UPI) -- Retired Gen. John Shalikashvili was in guarded condition Monday at a Tacoma, Wash., military hospital after suffering a stroke.
