Jim Wilkinson(Australian politician)

Latest News

The Hon. James Scott "Jim" Wilkinson MLC (born 4 December 1951 in Hobart, Tasmania, Australia) is the member for the Division of Nelson in the Legislative Council of the Tasmanian Parliament. He is also a practising lawyer in Hobart.

Jim Wilkinson belongs to the dominant Conservative majority in the Legislative Council. He has, along with the rest of the Council voted in favour of most of the Government's significant legislation. In a few notable cases Mr Wilkinson has voted down socially progressive legislation, such as the attempt by the Government in 2005 to regulate Tasmania's brothels.

Jim Wilkinson has been criticised for working in private practice as a lawyer at the same time as serving on the Legislative Council rather than committing to the job of Parliamentarian full-time. In the lead-up to the 2007 election he campaigned against the Lennon Government's pulp mill process, but after he was re-elected he ultimately voted in favour of the pulp mill.
