BAGHDAD, Aug. 25 (UPI) -- U.S. military officials say they have arrested the alleged mastermind behind the 2006 Iraq kidnapping of journalist Jill Carroll.

Key al-Qaida official killed in Iraq

BAGHDAD, May 3 (UPI) -- An al-Qaida leader believed to have been involved in the kidnapping of journalist Jill Carroll has been killed in Iraq, the U.S. military said Thursday.

BOSTON, Aug. 14 (UPI) -- Every day during the nearly three months she was held captive in Baghdad, Jill Carroll of the Christian Science Monitor says she thought she was going to die.

Christian Science Monitor reporter (2002–2006),

Jill Carroll (born October 6, 1977) is an American former journalist (now working as a firefighter) who was kidnapped and ultimately released in Iraq. Carroll was a reporter for the Christian Science Monitor at the time of her kidnapping. After finishing a fellowship at Harvard University's Joan Shorenstein Center on the Press, Politics and Public Policy she returned to work for the Monitor. After her release, Carroll wrote a series of articles on her recollection of her experiences in Iraq.

Carroll became an international cause célèbre when she was kidnapped in Baghdad on January 7, 2006. Carroll was freed on March 30, 2006.
