Goran Suton (born August 11, 1985 near Sarajevo, Socialist Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Yugoslavia), is a Bosnian-American basketball player who completed his college career with the Michigan State Spartans in 2009.
Suton was born on the outskirts of Sarajevo in the former Yugoslavia to a Croat father Miroslav and Serbian mother Zivana, both of whom grew up in Bosnia. During the Bosnian War, the family fled to Serbia or Croatia to escape ethnic cleansing. He played for the Bosnian U14 side before his family moved to the US where he attended Everett High School in Lansing, Michigan, United States. There he lead the Everett Vikings to a Class A boys basketball title in 2004 as a senior.
Suton first rose to notability during his freshman season at Michigan State, when he notoriously missed a last second layup in a hotly contested game against Gonzaga in the Maui Invitational. Suton developed into a key player for the Spartans during his career, earning second team All-Big Ten marks during his senior season. He made an unforgettable final home appearance for the Spartans, after the ceremonial kissing of the the "S", on the court in East Lansing after he fouled out in the final home game of the season, against the Purdue Boilmakers. Suton helped the Spartans to two NCAA Final Fours - one during his redshirt freshman year in 2005 and as a senior in 2009. He was especially effective during the 2009 final four run, holding USC star Taj Gibson to three points, and hitting a string of jump shots against Louisville en route to his 19 points.
