UPI POY 2008 - News and Features
The American flag carried by U.S. soldiers at Baltimoreƕs Fort McHenry on September 14, 1814, is preserved and on display at the National Museum of American History in Washington on November 19, 2008. The flag, raised to celebrate a crucial victory over British forces during the War of 1812, inspired Francis Scott Key to write the Star-Spangled Banner, the United States National Anthem. The museum, closed for renovations for two years, reopens to the public on November 21. (UPI Photo/Roger L. Wollenberg)
