Vail School District Site Technology Coordinator Wayne Gritis (L) and Superintendent Calvin Baker show off computers that will replace textbooks in the Empire High School near Tucson, AZ July 11, 2005. Instead of being issued textbooks, the students will be issued computers. Baker said that the teachers and students in the new high school have selected this method for classroom instruction, making it easier for the teachers to teach to standards. Although the school is wired and using technology, it won't turn out a bunch of "geeks," according to Baker. It is a regular high school with computers instead of textbooks. Baker said that the school is prepared for 750 students, but will only have about 350 enrolled to start. (UPI Photo/Will Powers)
