Antonio Di Pietro (born on 2 October 1950) is an Italian politician. He also was a Member of the European Parliament, and formerly Italian Senator, and Minister of Government Prodi. He was prosecutor in the team known in Italy as Mani Pulite in the early 1990s.
Born in a poor rural family of Montenero di Bisaccia (Molise), to pay for his studies Di Pietro went as a very young man to Germany to work in the morning in a factory and in the afternoon in a sawmill. Back in Italy, he graduated in law in 1978 and was admitted to serve in the Police as an officer. After a few years, he entered the judicial career as a prosecutor.
Together with other known judges such as Francesco Saverio Borrelli, Ilda Boccassini, Gherardo Colombo, Piercamillo Davigo, he founded the Mani Pulite ("clean hands") team, which investigated on political corruption.
