HONG KONG, Sept. 26 (UPI) -- For some time China has been constructing large-scale underground nuclear submarine facilities on its southern island province of Hainan. At the same time, the Chinese People's Liberation Army navy and air force have dramatically reinforced their military structures on the Xisha Islands -- known in the West as the Paracel Islands -- located in the South China Sea off the coast of Vietnam.

HONG KONG, Sept. 17 (UPI) -- China's official media have released photos of K-8 fighter trainers demonstrating impressive attack power against land-based targets. The aircraft are the same model that China has exported to Sudan, ostensibly for training purposes.

HONG KONG, Sept. 9 (UPI) -- China recently exported its T85IIM Main Battle Tanks to Uganda, according to a military industry source. But the tanks may be more for display than for defense.

HONG KONG, Aug. 22 (UPI) -- Within the next four months, a first batch of eight Russian-built Sukhoi Su-30MKI multirole fighters will be positioned at India's Tezpur Air Base in the state of Assam, near the border with China, an Indian navy source has revealed.

HONG KONG, Aug. 7 (UPI) -- China has signed a contract to provide Saudi Arabia with PLZ-45 155mm self-propelled howitzers for one battalion, according to an authoritative military industry source. One battalion normally would be armed with 27 such guns.

Therefore, the top priority of the new Kuomintang government in Taiwan is to strengthen its strategic relations with the United States and Japan and rebuild strategic mutual trust. This kind of trust between Taiwan, the United States and Japan has been greatly jeopardized over the last eight years.

HONG KONG, July 29 (UPI) -- In light of China's increasing military buildup, Taiwan's strategic security can be guaranteed only under three conditions.

HONG KONG, July 25 (UPI) -- In the area of advanced multirole fighters alone, the People's Republic of China imported 100 Su-30MKK/MK2s over the past eight years, whereas Taiwan did not purchase any new combat aircraft. Nor did it procure any surface warships or submarines, except for one retired Keelung Class DDG from the United States. Taiwan virtually wasted the whole of eight years in its military development.
