Alfred Mosher Butts (April 13, 1899 - April 4, 1993) was an American architect and the inventor of the board game Scrabble in 1938.

Alfred Butts was born in Poughkeepsie and earned his architecture degree from the University of Pennsylvania. He subsequently lived in Stanfordville, part of Stanford, New York and worked in Jackson Heights, Queens.

He was married to Nina.
