WASHINGTON, June 12 (UPI) -- More than 42 million Iranians are eligible to vote Friday in the presidential election, and long lines were reported around the country's polling places. Voting has already been extended at least two hours because of heavy turnout.

WASHINGTON, June 9 (UPI) -- One of the most important terror suspects in Guantanamo Bay is coming to America to face trial: Ahmed Ghailani, a "high-value detainee," was moved Tuesday from Guantanamo Bay to New York to face charges in federal court there. He is the first such prisoner taken to the United States.

WASHINGTON, June 8 (UPI) -- U.S. journalists Laura Ling and Euna Lee have been sentenced to 12 years of hard labor after being found guilty of the "grave crime" of illegally crossing into North Korea. Hard labor in the North Korean prison system could easily be tantamount to a death sentence, but it seems at least possible that the increasingly unpredictable regime in Pyongyang may be prepared to let them go in return for major concessions from the administration of U.S. President Barack Obama.
