CNOOC's Biodiesel Project in Hainan to Begin Operation in May 2009
BEIJING--September 29, 2008--Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Construction of China National Offshore Oil Corporation's (CNOOC) (Beijing) 14.9 million-gallon-per-year biodiesel project in southern China's island province Hainan began on September 23. According to the schedule, the project is expected to begin commercial operation in May 2009. As the first biodiesel project in Hainan, the project will be able to supply 14.9 million gallons of quality biodiesel each year upon completion. The project is one of China's three demonstrative biodiesel plants and uses tung tree as feedstock. The project will use technology developed by Sinopec (NYSE:SNP).

Moodys Corp. (MCO) has a solid franchise in the rating of debt instruments, and has diversified itself with credit research and international growth. This has helped the New York-based company offset declining ratings revenues, which fell 35% in the first half of 2008. However, Moody?s still remains cautious about the recovery in the credit market for the remainder of the year. The current credit crunch is impeding the U.S. economy, which may likely experience a recession as consumer confidence declines. The Federal Reserve has cut rates, however, many people have been shut out of the mortgage market and investors in subprime debt have dried up.   • Smithfield Foods Inc. (NYSE: SFD) swung to a Q1 loss due in part to rising commodities prices.
  • Talbots Inc. (NYSE: TLB) nearly doubled its Q2 loss due to lower sales and restructuring charges.
  • Thornburg Mortgage Inc. (NYSE: TMA) posted a Q2 profit but warned of possible collapse on margin calls.
  • Tiffany & Co. (NYSE: TIF) doubled its Q2 profit on strong international sales, and raised its guidance.
  • TiVo Inc. (NASDAQ: TIVO) unexpectedly swung to a Q2 profit but forcast another loss in Q3.
