Thoratec is a manufacturer of circulatory support products for use by patients with congestive heart failure (HF). Co. operates in two segments: Cardiovascular segment, which develops, manufactures and markets medical devices used for circulatory support and vascular graft applications; and International Technidyne Corporation segment, which designs, develops, manufactures and markets point-of-care diagnostic test systems and incision products. Co.'s products include ventricular assist devices for the short, intermediate and long-term treatment of advanced HF; and devices used to obtain a patient's blood sample for diagnostic testing and screening for platelet function.
