Consol Energy is a multi-fuel energy producer and energy services provider that primarily serves the U.S. electric power generation industry. At Dec 31 2006, Co. produced bituminous coal from 17 mining complexes in the U.S. Co. also produces pipeline-quality coalbed methane gas from its coal properties in Pennsylvania, Virginia and West Virginia and conventional gas from its properties in Tennessee and Virginia. The Coal unit is mainly engaged in the mining, preparation and marketing of steam coal, sold primarily to power generators, and of metallurgical coal, sold to metal and coke producers. The Gas unit produces pipeline quality coalbed methane gas for sale primarily to gas wholesalers.
