Overall sales dropped 7.6% from a year ago to $2.7 billion in the month, which is certainly a disappointment considering the month included the most successful game launch of all time in “Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2?. NCR To Acquire DVDPlay Kiosks
NCR Corp. (NYSE: NCR), the maker of ATM machines and cash registers, will reportedly acquire DVD kiosk operator DVDPlay. Georgia-based NCR will convert the DVDPlay's 1,300 kiosks to the Blockbuster Express brand name in effort to challenge Coinstar's (Nasdaq: CSTR) Redbox DVD kiosks.
Video rental chain Blockbuster (NYSE: BBI) will license its brand to NCR and get a percentage of rental revenue from the kiosks.
Even with the acquisition, NCR have just 3,800 DVD rental kiosks compared with more than 20,000 for Redbox, according to the Wall Street Journal.

Stocks for the Next Decade with a Twist
Hickey and Walters (Bespoke) submit:
By now we're all familiar with the sometimes disastrous returns an investor can see if they follow the advice of columns that suggest stocks to buy for the next decade. With that in mind, an MSN article we read today may provide the key to success. In the article, the author suggests seven companies that aren't likely to be around in 2020. If the stocks that everybody loves at the beginning of a decade tend to do poorly over the course of the decade, are the stocks that everybody hates potential winners? Below we highlight the seven names cited in the article. As shown, most of these companies have been poor performers and are in industries that are on the decline. Of the seven names, only six are publicly traded. Will Magellan be the hot IPO of the decade? Complete Story »

Blockbuster Starts New Grocery-Store Kiosks -- And May Save Itself In The Process
Blockbuster is rolling out grocery-store kiosks, a move that could take out upstart Redbox and re-establish its foothold in middle America. The relatively old-fashioned DVD push is infinitely smarter than pushing into the crowded digital space or continuing its losing mail-order battle against Netflix. Local movie...

Netflix Looks Expensive, Yet Still Impressive
Dan Wieman submits:In a recent post, I calculated an intrinsic value for Netflix (NFLX) at $43 per share. This assumed 22% growth this year. In its third quarter, Netflix posted profits that were up 48% year-over-year on a revenue increase of 24%. Gross margins remained relatively constant, but net margins grew largely as a result of less marketing as a percentage of gross profit. Complete Story »
