Memorial Service at Dike Bridge for Mary Jo Kopechne on 10th anniversary of her drowing
A wreath of yellow flowers is thrown off the Dike Bridge by Frank Fusco of Poughkeepsie, NY, founder of the Mary Jo Kopechne Memorial Society on July 19, 1979, during a Mary Jo Kopechne Memorial Service, celebrating the life and death of the 28-year old secretary, who drowned in Sen. Edward Kennedy’s car 10 years ago. Rev. Lester Kinsolving, editor-publisher of the Washington weekly newsletter, and Anglican Rector of Saint Hilda’s Church in Washington, conducted the memorial service. He criticized Sen. Kennedy for not resigning from the Senate when the accident occurred the night of July 18, 1969. (UPI Photo/Files)
