U.N. HUMANITARIAN CHIEF JAN EGELAND
Residents take advantage of U.N. Humanitarian chief Jan Egeland tour of Beirut's southern suburbs to retrieve some their goods on Sunday July 23, 2006. Egeland warned that if this conflict continues many more civilians will be killed and wounded. As the conflict rages in south Lebanon hundreds of thousands of Lebanese continue to flee the fighting. Over 300 Lebanese, mostly civilians, have died since the conflict began on Wednesday 12 July, after Hezbollah guerrillas kidnapped two Israeli soldiers. (UPI PhotO)
