Vegan celebs turn up for Peta's 35th anniversary party

LOS ANGELES, Oct. 1 (UPI) -- People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals celebrated 35 years of advocating for animal rights with a star-studded bash Wednesday.

The event, also an awards show, took place at the Hollywood Palladium in Los Angeles, and featured Sir Paul McCartney, a famous vegetarian, and his band.

Anjelica Huston and Pamela Anderson hosted the gathering which honored the likes of Alicia Silverstone, RZA, Bill Maher, Jason Biggs, Fred Willard, James Cromwell, Jane Velez-Mitchell, Jillian Michaels, Kate del Castillo, Maggie, Marco Antonio Regil, Mary Matalin, Mike White, Noah Cyrus, Shaun Monson and Tommy Lee for their advocacy efforts.

Some of the award-winners are more than animal rights activists and even adhere to a vegan and or vegetarian lifestyle. Some of the non-meat-eating celebrities at the event were:

Alicia Silverstone: The Clueless star promotes a meat-less way of life through her website The Kind Life.

Pamela Anderson: In addition to appearing on several Peta advertisements the Baywatch actress has helped promote veganism with her cooking show Sensual Vegan.

Maggie Q: The Nikita star often credits her slender figure to her vegan diet.

Ireland Baldwin: Alec Baldwin and Kim Basinger's daughter announced in July she had joined a 31-day vegan challenge.
