LOS ANGELES, Feb. 24 (UPI) -- While the rest of us were shaking our heads over Dennis Rodman's ludicrous "friendship" with North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un, Hollywood filmmakers saw dollar signs.

20th Century Fox has reportedly green-lit Diplomats, a film inspired by the flamboyant former basketball player's attempt at "basketball diplomacy," with Ride Along's Tim Story attached to direct and The Heat's Peter Chermin to produce.

The Hollywood Reporter has described Diplomats as a "a two-hander that takes its cues from the antics of the 6-foot-7 former NBA player" -- which means it will have two main characters, one of whom is based on Rodman. The other is possibly the basketball-loving dictator of an oppressive isolationist regime.

Luckily for Jonathan Abrams, who will write the script, Rodman's questionable relationship with the North Korean government already seems like the stuff of satire and not real life.

The 52-year-old, known as "The Worm," sang "Happy Birthday" to Kim Jong Un before a basketball game last month between former NBA players and the North Korean Senior National Team. He has called Kim a "friend for life" and suggested that President Barack Obama open up talks with Kim over their shared love of basketball.

"If I don’t finish in the top three for the next Nobel Peace Prize, something’s seriously wrong," Rodman actually said last July.
