NEW YORK, Feb. 24 (UPI) -- After three long years, CNN is canceling Piers Morgan Live.

Morgan, who’s occupied the time slot that once belonged to Larry King, has been failing to connect with his audiences since the show’s beginning. The date of the final episode is “still to be determined,” but could come as early as next month, according to a statement from CNN Sunday night.

The show’s struggles and imminent termination were not news to Morgan, however, who spoke candidly with The New York Times.

“Look, I am a British guy debating American cultural issues, including guns, which has been very polarizing, and there is no doubt that there are many in the audience who are tired of me banging on about it,” he said.

Despite his take on guns in the U.S., Morgan says he's working with CNN president Jeff Zucker on a new role at the network.

“There are all kinds of people who can do news here. I’d like to do work -- interviews with big celebrities and powerful people -- that is better suited to what I do well and fit with what Jeff is trying to do with the network.”

Morgan is interested in doing “fewer appearances with greater effect,” but plans for the future are still uncertain.
