Adams choked up as soon Lipton mentioned her Oscar nomination for Doubt, which also starred Hoffman. Lipton also struggled to find words in remembrance of such a staggering loss to the acting community.
"We've arrived at a difficult moment," he said, recalling his first interview with Hoffman 14 years ago. He said he knew then that Hoffman would become "greatest actor of his generation."
"I wish you all could have had the change to work with him. He was a beautiful spirit and he had this unique ability to see people, to really see them, not look through them," Adams, 39, continued through tears. "He just really saw people, and he will be missed."
"I just really loved him, and I know so many people did," she added. "I just don't know how much more I can talk about it right now, sorry."
