Liam Neeson: Wife Natasha Richardson's death still doesn't seem 'real'

NEW YORK, Feb. 20 (UPI) -- Tony-winning stage and film actress Natasha Richardson died in 2009 after suffering a head injury in a skiing accident in Quebec, Canada. She was 45.

Five years later, Liam Neeson is still coming to terms with his wife's death.

"[Her death] was never real. It still kind of isn't," Neeson told Anderson Cooper in an upcoming 60 Minutes interview, set to air Sunday. "There's periods now in our New York residence when I hear the door opening, especially the first couple of years...anytime I hear that door opening, I still think I'm going to hear her."

"It hits you. It's like a wave," he added. "You just get this profound feeling of instability...the Earth isn't stable anymore and then it passes and it becomes more infrequent, but I still get it sometimes."

Neeson has remained active in the years since her death, starring in films like The A-Team, The Grey, and most recently, the upcoming Non-Stop.

Neeson, now 61, said he and Richardson had agreed to "pull the plug" if either of them ended up in a vegetative state, which is what happened when Richardson's head injury led her brain to swell. He said he decided to donate her organs.

"She's keeping three people alive at the moment...her heart, her kidneys and her liver. It's terrific...and I think she would be very thrilled and pleased by that," he said.
