RIYADHFeb. 19 (UPI) -- Nothing gets the royals on their feet like a little cultural diplomacy.
In another attempt to prove that he's more easy-going than his mom, who once refused a pint of Guinness at the Guinness factory, Prince Charles took part in a ceremonial sword dance in Saudi Arabia on Wednesday.
The 65-year-old prince of Wales, on his 10th official visit to the Middle Eastern nation, wore a traditional garment known as a thobe and a red-and-white checkered keffiyeh to perform the dance, known as the Ardah. Members of Saudi Arabia's royal family also participated.
The event took place at a stadium in the capital of Riyadh, currently in the midst of its 17-day Janadriyah cultural festival.
Amnesty International UK has called on Charles to discuss human rights issues with Saudi Arabian leaders during his visits, and issued a pointed critique of Charles' participation in the dance:
Prince Charles's sword dance. Yes, they like swords in Saudi Arabia. Including for public executions ... http://t.co/b2lXFm1DRT
