NEW YORK, Feb. 13 (UPI) -- Al Roker is in Russia covering the Winter Olympics -- where they're experiencing unseasonably warm weather -- but he's still keeping an eye on the conditions back home.

The Today show meteorologist fired off a series of tweets at New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio, who refused to cancel school for the snow storm blanketing the East Coast.

"@NYCMayorsOffice @NYCSchools Is it worth putting kids' safety at risk?" Roker tweeted. "And how about all the parents and caregivers who have to scramble to get their kids home? Is there no one there with any common sense?"

"I knew this am @NYCMayorsOffice @NYCSchools would close schools. Talk about a bad prediction. Long range DiBlasio forecast: 1 term," Roker continued.

It goes on:

But de Blasio remained unmoved, telling reporters during a storm press conference that Roker shouldn't tell him how to do his job.

β€œI respect Al Roker a lot, watched him on TV for many many years,” the first-term mayor said. β€œIt's a different thing to run a city than to give weather on TV.”

"I respect all the meteorologists out there, but the one I respect the most is called the National Weather Service," he added.
